Stop Zain’s REMOVAL
Zain Ul-Haq is a climate activist, SFU graduate and organizer with Extinction Rebellion. He played an important role in SFU350’s Climate Emergency Declaration campaign, and has continually resisted the TMX project on the frontlines. Zain is facing legal consequences and now deportation threats from the Minister of Immigration. SFU350 denounces the crackdown on activists, urging Zain's acceptance into Canada, emphasizing that no one should be punished for fighting for justice.
Palestinian Liberation Policy
The Palestinian Liberation Policy allows undergraduates from SFU to publicly support Palestine’s liberation against the Israelis colonial occupation. This would amplify the Palestinian diaspora in the university and encourage social justice. The bill would condone the participation and funding in activism initiatives.
The policy passed during the April 20th, 2022 SFSS council meeting.
STAND WITH UKRAINE
Stand With Ukraine, a website created by the European Union, gives an opportunity to support the Ukrainian people in the midst of the Russian Invasion. Their plan is to end the funding of Vladimir Putin’s campaign by stopping Europe’s dependency on Russian Fuel. To divest from oil and gas would thereby diminish Russian power and allow Europe to work towards a greener future.

STUDENTS FOR JUSTICE IN PALESTINE (SJP)
SJP organizers at SFU are a student-led group that works to engage the SFU community in supporting Palestinian liberation. On November 9, 2023, the put out an open letter calling on the university to condemn the siege on Gaza, urge a ceasefire,
SUE BIG OIL
Sue Big Oil is a movement led by West Coast Environmental Law demanding justice by holding big oil companies accountable to their roles in fuelling the climate crisis. It seeks collaboration with local and Indigenous governments in filing a class action lawsuit against these companies to reduce fossil fuel usage. The lawsuit has not been filed until further endorsement is given, but the declaration is currently available to sign below.
Indigenous, black and Disabled Students Levy
These equity policies were brought forth by SFU SOCA, SFU FNMISA, and SFU DNA to support Indigenous, Black, and Disabled students in offering better opportunities to excel in SFU’s environment. The levies passed in Spring 2022 during the SFSS election.
SFU PROGRESSIVES 2022
The SFU Progressives party campaigns annually during the Simon Fraser Student Society elections for positions on the board of directors. Their platform advocates and supports student power, solidarity between workers and students, justice for marginalized students on campus, student safety and climate justice SFU350 supported the SFU Progressives during their 2022 campaign.
SFU RETURN TO CAMPUS
SFU Return to Campus was an open letter to Simon Fraser University regarding the health and safety of mandatory in-person classes. The petition highlighted the concerns from disabled and immunocompromised students that could not risk attending in-person classes during the pandemic. The letter called on the University to delay in-person classes and offer alternative learning schedules.
Teaching support staff union (TSSU) STRIKE
The TSSU is a labour union representing teaching assistants, tutor markers, sessional instructors, ELC/ITP instructors, graduate facilitators, and research assistants at SFU.
hug the mountain
Hug the Mountain is an annual action that unites climate and environmental organizers against TMX by embracing Burnaby Mountain with a big, human-chain hug. Booths and activities are set up to create joy in a time of crisis while promoting people to stand up for the land.
MCMASTER DIVEST
The McMaster Divest petition was created by Mac Divest, a student-led group from Ontario’s McMaster University that works to get the institution to divest from fossil fuels. On March 25th, Mac Divest organized a school-wide walkout to pressure the university’s board of governors to divest from its current holdings with fossil fuel projects and reinvest the funds into green technologies.
STUDENTS FOR A FOSSIL FREE FUTURE
Students for a Fossil Free Future is a student-led inter-university coalition from Singapore demanding fossil fuel divestment from universities across the country. As a part of a 2-week campaign launched in January 2022, they started a petition based on recommendations from their comprehensive report revealing in detail the ties Singaporean universities had to the fossil fuel industry.
